Sam and I just celebrated our 5th Wedding Anniversary! Wow! We had a wonderful weekend getaway in the beautiful city of Baton Rouge. Daniel stayed with my mom and dad for the first time (by himself). He had a wonderful time and didn't ask about us once (which i don't know if I find that reassuring or worrisome). Simon tagged along with us and was the reason we stayed in BR. He still hates riding in the car, so we figured we wouldn't torture him too much. We started off our trip with a horrible stop at the outlet mall. Daniel wouldn't obey and Simon was mad from the car ride. It resulted in no clothes for me and a very quick trip to the $2.99 and under rack at Children's Place. After we dropped Daniel off with Mimi we headed to see Toy Story 3. This was the first movie we have seen alone in two years and it was a great movie. Yes, I did cry at a children's movie, but who doesn't. Simon slept through the whole thing and the benefit of bringing in a diaper bag is that you can sneak in candy and bottled water : ) Then we ate at California Pizza Kitchen in Perkins Rowe and took some cute pictures of Simon. I think he really enjoyed being an only child this weekend. If you are a parent of two kids and you have never been alone with the second for more than a day, I highly recommend it. He enjoyed all his extra attention.
We stayed at the Hilton in Downtown BR, and it was really nice. It had small rooms but nice atmosphere. We rested there for a while, hoping Simon would sleep but he never did. As soon as we left to go find dinner, Simon fell asleep, so we walked around downtown for a while so he could get some rest. We ate dinner at Capitol City Grill. We used to eat there a lot when we were dating. Since then, however, they have changed the menu, and it definitely is not any better. They lied about what kind of root beer they served (which did not make Sam happy). Then after they had already brought Sam his salad, they told him they were out of Meniuere Sauce (which was the whole reason he ordered what he did). As soon as our food came, Simon decided to have a poopy diaper explosion so we just took our food to go and ate in the room. This actually turned out well because Simon got to sleep, and Sam ordered us a wonderful dessert from the downstairs restaurant. Sunday morning we ordered Room service (my first time!) and relaxed in bed until 10 (I have not stayed in bed past 8:30 since Daniel was 4 months old so this was a treat!). We watched our wedding video for the first time too. On our way to church we stopped at the spot at LSU where Sam proposed and snapped a picture. We went to St. Aloysius for mass, the same church where we were married. We tried to go to Calendar's Restaurant for lunch. This is where we had our first date (same restaurant, different location), but it was closed so we ended up at the Times Cafe/Grill. All in all it was a wonderful weekend, a wonderful first trip without Daniel, and a great opportunity to get to know our new baby a little bit better.
